GEOMETRY WITH THE EYES
Basis of Composition in the Arts

This book is the result of fifteen years of studies on art, in collaboration with mathematicians (in particular Jean-Paul Guichard and the IREM of Poitiers). Until the Renaissance, the composition of painting and architecture was based on a specific geometry, called « with the eyes ». Its adventure began before writing, and books report nothing about. This practice avoids calculation for fear of scaring numbers, thanks to a grid where the figures are constructed. Thales, like many Greek philosophers, went to Egypt to learn it - he will give his name to the axioms. Then, all the properties are demonstrated with visual evidences, qualified as monstrations, in particular the four manifestations of the golden ratio in the triangle 3-4-5. This book offers a rich pedagogical material, as well as a solid basis for reflection on art and history. Rublev, Botticelli and Dürer are the great masters of this art.

Ebook version

An evening of support for Asli Erdogan
When Claudine Bertrand, a poet from Quebec visiting Prague, told me about Asli Erdoğan, it seemed obvious to me that her story would catch the attention of Czech authors as well. Josef Straka was also convinced by this and we quickly brought together numerous artists around the project.
PRAGUE DISSENTING OPINION
The Czechs have a long tradition of literary militancy. Their modern language was forged in the nineteenth century, in the crucible of a group where shined two scholars: Josef Dobrovský and Josef Jungmann. Czech artists gathered, sheltered by their differences, in the magazine Humoritické Listy and the following century Czechoslovakia broke free from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Later Franz Kafka, whose personality is so entangled with Prague, signs the emergence of another form of dissent : the individual consciousness facing a nightmarish bureaucracy.

Lastly, the activists of Charter 77 gathered around the playwright Václav Havel, extending this cultural struggle to the political front. History proved them right : Czechoslovakia escaped from the Soviet bloc.

This collection is a confrontation of image and text, painting and poetry. The painter Yvo Jacquier has drawn the Cyrillic alphabet used by the poet at the beginning of each of her poems. The concept is innovative.
